WORK OF PUBLIC LIBRARIES ON READERS’ SERVICE IN THE 1950-1960S (BY THE MATERIALS OF ARKHANGELSK AND VOLOGDA REGIONS)

Abstract. The article deals with the numerical composition of the readers of the public libraries of Arkhangelsk and Vologda regions in the 1950-1960s. The performances of regional, urban, district and rural libraries are described. The author determines the categories of the readers, ways to attract people to the users undertaken by the institutions, and the forms of library services and their themes. The specificity of this activity in rural area is shown. Tasks assigned to cultural institutions and ??associated with values translation that were approved by the state are presented in the text.
