Abstract. The article is aimed at showing that military and philosophical thought had significant development in the works of the ancient Greek thinkers. Trying to guess the nature of war ancient philosophers expressed a variety of opinions about its origins, preparation and prosecution, classified wars and focused on interrelation between war and politics. The author draws attention to the fact that war was the primary means used to provide the existed in ancient Greece system with slaves, which explains interest in military problems of the ancient Greeks.
