Abstract. The article examines the ontological and ethical connectedness of the notions "horror" and "death". The significance of philosophical reflection on these notions is substantiated. The peculiarities of the Russian philosophy in comparison with the West-European one concerning the issues connected with the horror of death are revealed. The essential distinction between "the horror of death" and "the fear of death" and the differences of psychological and ethical approaches to these phenomena are also found out.
