Abstract. The article is devoted to the complex research of urban space. This problem is poorly studied and requires further research. The paper considers such scientific approaches to this phenomenon as cultural-semiotic, anthropological, sociological, landscape and environmental ones. Particular attention is paid to the study of the social-cultural space of province in terms of social-philosophical approach. In conclusion the problem of the cultural heritage preservation of provincial towns is revealed.
