Abstract. The article examines the phenomenon of the esthetization of horror in the context of modern media culture. Special attention is paid to the mechanisms for the profanation of deeper moral senses, which include the existential conceptions "horror" and "death". The author shows how mass media exploit the theme of death for commercial purposes and concludes on the serious anthropological crisis of modernity, in which the transformation of fundamental human qualities occurred.
