NEW TACTICS OF THE IRISHMEN IN POLITICAL STRUGGLE FOR THEIR RIGHTS IN THE 70S OF THE XIX CENTURY: STONEWALLING

Abstract. The article considers the emergence and importance of new tactics in the struggle of the Irishmen against the English Parliament in the 70s of the XIX century that was called "stonewalling". It is shown that by using this tactics Parnell and his supporters tried to inhibit the actions of the majority in the parliament. Parnell became a national hero for Ireland in its struggle for freedom. And, despite the short period of its existence and criticism on the part of Parnell’s fellow party members, the article proves its effectiveness, and also shows the results, which stonewalling provided in the struggle of the Irishmen for self-government.
