CONSTANTS OF SELF-CONSCIOUSNESS AS FACTORS OF ETHNIC IDENTIFICATION

Abstract. The article aims to identify the role of self-consciousness in ethnic identification. The paper claims that self-consciousness elevated to the rank of supreme idea becomes a value, which allows ethnic communities not only to adapt to ongoing changes but also, and first of all, to preserve and reproduce themselves. The authors analyze the complicated combinations of traditional and liberal values, contradictions between them and their influences on the process of ethnic identification.
