ROLE OF PRINCE MUTSAL CHERKASSKY IN THE KABARDIAN-RUSSIAN RELATIONS (1641-1645)

Abstract. Basing on the documents and achievements of domestic historiography, for the first time introduced into scientific circulation, the author analyzes the influence of the Battle of Malka in 1641 on political conjuncture in the region. The article shows the role of the Kabardian Prince Mutsal Sunchaleevich Cherkassky in the minimization of the negative for the Russian interests consequences of the events in 1641 by means of restoring diplomatic ties of Moscow Court with the princes of Great Kabarda. The success of the mission of Prince Mutsal was associated largely with his knowledge of the political culture of the Kabardian ruling class.
