MEASURES OF OFFICIAL INCENTIVE AND PUNISHMENT OF THE COMMON FAITH CLERGY OF TOBOLSK EPARCHY ACCORDING TO CLERGY LISTS OF COMMON FAITH CHURCHES FOR 1874-1915

Abstract. Relying on the studies of the clergy lists of the Common Faith churches of Tobolsk Eparchy for 1874-1915 the article analyzes the application of the measures of official incentive and punishment in relation to the Common Faith clergy. The paper identifies reasons for the application of the most frequent measures of incentive and punishment. The author argues for the thesis that the control of the eparchial authorities over the behaviour of the clergy was systematic and played an important role in the formation of the moral make-up of the Common Faith priests and clergymen.
