THEATRICAL PUBLIC OF VYATKA PROVINCE IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE XIX - AT THE BEGINNING OF THE XX CENTURY

Abstract. The article dwells upon the characteristics of theatrical public as a specific population category of Vyatka province in the second half of the XIX - at the beginning of the XX century. The author considers the social structure of Vyatka theatre-goers as well as the categories of spectators’ seats. Attitude to theatre depending on the educational levels of different groups of playgoers is in the sphere of interest too. The author reveals the problems of rivalry on the side of other performing arts and the adequacy of the repertoire to the peculiarities of Vyatka playgoers. The article determines the reasons of the decline of attendance, and the social functions of theatre in the specified period.
