Abstract. The article examines the synergetic features of the ethnical system. The starting point for the analysis is the conception of ethno-genesis by L. N. Gumilev defining ethnos as an open system. Developing this approach the author proves the thesis that the feature of the openness of ethnos involves a variety of its other characteristics, in particular, such as non-equilibrium, dissipativity and non-linearity. The paper has an interdisciplinary character; it is written at the junction of ethnological, philosophical, culturological and natural sciences.
