TOWN IN WORLDVIEW OF THE RUSSIAN NEO-PAGANISM: ORIGINS AND INTERPRETATION OF SYMBOLISM

Abstract. Although the Russian neo-paganism spreads mainly among urban intelligentsia, anti-urbanism associated with the rejection of technocratic civilization is immanent in it. On the other hand, aiming to emphasize the greatness of the first ancestors, the bearers of ethnic-oriented neo-paganism ascribe the primordial possession of all the attributes of civilization including towns to them. According to the author’s point of view, ambivalent attitude to the town in the Russian neo-paganism of the end of the XX - the beginning of the XXI century is conditioned by both the archetypes of biblical culture and the contradictoriness of urbanization processes in the history of Russia.
