Abstract. The article examines the problem of the compositional structure of the Yakut round dance о?уохай on the basis of published papers, archival materials and the author’s observations during folkloric expeditions. Relying on B. Asafyev and V. Bobrovskiy’s theory of functionality in musical form the author argues that the full version of the dance composition consists of two parts contrasting in the style of singing, melody, function and tempo. In the dance there can also be variant-variation, one-part and suite-like structures on the basis of the functional and melodic peculiarities of the second part.
