PECULIARITIES OF RENOVATIONIST MOVEMENT IN ROSTOV AND TAGANROG EPARCHY

Abstract. In the article on the basis of a wide range of archival sources the peculiarities of the origin and development of renovationist schism in the Don region are considered. Unlike other regions, in Rostov-on-Don renovationist schism grew out of the protest movement of the clergy that was supported by the State Political Directorate, which fulminated the Bishop Arsenii (Smolenets), who called for resistance to church property confiscation. The characteristic features of Rostov renovationism were its commitment to moderate reforms and clericality.
