Abstract. The article examines the possibilities of "oral history" as a non-traditional source of historical knowledge. The author analyzes the memories regarding the history of the vanished villages of Kolosovka district of Omsk region. The paper provides the specific memories of the former residents of the villages, shows their potential for studying the history of the foundation of the villages and their development in the Soviet period. The acquired results can be used while developing educational courses on regional studies, while preparing scientific and educational literature on regional problems and while acquiring source base for regional studies.
