USE OF MONASTIC PENANCE ON OLD BELIEVERS AND SECTARIANS IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE XIX CENTURY

Abstract. In the article the issues of impact on the Old Believers and sectarians in Vyatka region through the use of monastery penance in the first half of the XIX century are considered for the first time. The overview of the legal grounds of penance is presented. The personal characteristics of the people, who were sent for reformation, the methods of influence on them are analyzed. The author comes to the conclusion about the absence of the essential training of the monks, which turned penance in an ineffective means of influence on the representatives of the Old Believers and sectarians.
