FROM THE HISTORY OF MUSEUMIFICATION OF ST. PETERSBURG ACTUAL ART OF THE 1990S

Abstract. The article focuses on the activity of the Department of Contemporary Art of the Russian Museum. The practical experience of its exhibition work is summarized on the basis of the museum catalogues of the first experimental exhibitions, which have become rare books today. The author identifies such factors of the collection acquisition as the focus on the correspondence between domestic works and the latest trends in the world artistic process; the contextual nature of the works and their openness for interpretation; and the priority of the post-modernist approach to art. The significant influence of the Russian Museum on the process of the formation of the modern St. Petersburg art scene is shown.
