Abstract. The article reveals the issues of the development of deer-raising in close connection with socialist formation in the Republic of Tuva. Only the Eastern Tuvans raise deer in the Republic of Tuva (the Tozhu Tuvans living in Todzhinsky District of the Tuva Republic). The author describes the change of the lifestyle of the Tozhu Tuvans including the organizational forms of deer-raising farming. The researcher emphasizes that socialist modernization had not only positive, but also negative aspects. This affected the dynamics of the number of deer in Tuva in the Soviet period.
