Abstract. In the article an attempt to rethink the idea of ??a fixed notion about stoic attitude towards the world as about the confrontation of moral subject with hostile reality is made. The author believes that this formed over many centuries image of the stoic has the features of moral rigor and world outlook extremism. The more careful reading of Stoic sources allows us to find another, optimistic and even festive attitude of the stoic towards the world. The same state of mind is detected in the ethical doctrine by Spinoza, which is close to Stoicism.
