"LINGUISTIC SPLIT" OF MEDIEVAL TEXTS AS A METHODOLOGICAL ISSUE FOR MEDIEVALISTS (BY THE EXAMPLE OF A. YA. GUREVICH’S WORKS)

Abstract. In the article by the example of the works of the historian A. Ya. Gurevich the author considers the problem of the linguistic analysis of the legal texts of the Middle Ages, which needs a profound study of semantic language constructions based on the methods of studying the history of culture. Gurevich brings out clearly that the socio-economic reality of the Middle Ages human being is reconstructed in the sources through the lenses of his/her thinking and mentality, which is fully represented in the language.
