Abstract. The article discusses the foreign policy and geopolitical strategy of the Russian Federation regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran by the example of the problem of the Caspian Sea legal regime. The paper aims to summarize and analyze Russia’s geopolitical imperatives and foreign policy in the Caspian Sea basin at the modern stage of international relations development. The authors use the materials of Russian, Iranian and western sources.
