TRADITION: VALUE AND PROSPECTS FOR EXISTENCE IN CHANGING SOCIETY

Abstract. Relying on the analysis of social changes as the processes resulting in the reconsideration of the value status of traditions in individual consciousness the author identifies different variations of the "destiny" of traditions in social life. The paper shows that depending on the nature of sociocultural changes and the level of adherence to traditions they can be preserved, lose authority, "originate", "undergo modification" or die out completely. The researcher identifies the consequences of these processes for the bearers of traditions and society on the whole.
