SAMIZDAT AMONG WESTERN SIBERIAN DISSIDENTS (THE 1970S - THE MIDDLE OF THE 1980S)

Abstract. The article is devoted to samizdat activity among the dissidents of Western Siberia. The author reveals the motives, which induced the dissidents to the publication and circulation of samizdat materials. Special attention is paid to such major cities of Western Siberia as Novosibirsk and Tomsk where the scientific intellectuals of the region prevailed. It is concluded that samizdat was a way of individual self-expression, a form of independent creative process carried out in defiance of the prohibitions of the authorities.
