Abstract. The article deals with the sources of the origin of cross-cultural communication as an interdisciplinary trend of scientific thought. Cross-cultural communication as a field of knowledge is shown against the background of the socio-cultural, economic and political situation of the postwar world. At the same time, in the paper the main points of the coincidence of this scientific field with other areas of the humanities researches are covered. The novelty of the article is that in the short review the origin of one of the most rapidly developing social and the humanities studies today is shown.
