Abstract. The article is devoted to the social and philosophical understanding of the phenomenon of national consciousness, the interpretation of its social content and role in the life activity of modern society. The author considers the logic of the formation of the notion "national consciousness", and identifies the objective grounds of its manifestation in social processes. It is shown that national consciousness is an ideal but really existing phenomenon affecting ethno-national activity. In the work the structure of national consciousness and the peculiarities of its formation are revealed.
