PLATONISM AND ASCETIC PHILOSOPHY OF MEDIEVAL RUSSIA

Glazkov Aleksandr Petrovich
Volga State University of Water Transport (Branch) in Astrakhan

Abstract. The article examines the possibility for the influence of Platonism on ancient Russian philosophy and, consequently, on the formation of Russian philosophical tradition on the whole. The paper provides a comparative analysis of the basic ideological foundations for the two types of philosophy: Platonic and Christian ones. The author concludes that because of cardinal differences at religious level there were no spiritual foundations for the penetration of Platonism into ancient Russian philosophy. Russian medieval ascetic philosophy is an immediate successor of Byzantine patristics, that’s why it also inherited established in the Byzantine Empire attitude to Plato’s philosophy and Platonic philosophical tradition on the whole.
