Abstract. The article examines the traditional and new types of the houses of the Kabardians, one of the nations of Kabardino-Balkaria included in the structure of the North-Caucasian Federal District of the Russian Federation. On the basis of available ethnographical material the author analyzes the houses of the Kabardians. The paper also touches on the specifics of the interior of their habitations. The researcher describes in detail their basic household articles, the order of things. Changes in habitations were associated, first of all, with socio-economic and cultural transformations in the life of the people.
