LUXURY IN THE RUSSIAN SOCIETY IN PERIOD OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR: ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL ASPECTS

Abstract. In the article the attempts of luxury consumption control made by the Russian state and society in the period of the First World War are considered. Special attention is paid to controversy about the import of luxury articles into the territory of Russia. In the work the peculiarities of the luxury institution of the Russian society of the beginning of the XX century and the period of the First World War are also analyzed. Some historical sources are introduced into scientific use by the author for the first time. The work is of interdisciplinary type, it is written at the junction of social, historical and economic sciences.
