ROMANTIC HISTORICISM IN LIBRETTI OF EUG?NE SCRIBE’S GRAND OPERAS

Abstract. The article examines the method of romantic historicism in the libretti of Eug?ne Scribe’s grand operas. The French romanticism was aimed at the revelation of the problems of the social system. Scribe in his libretti represented this range of problems capturing from history those crucial points, when the existence of a certain nation is endangered. The interpretation of history in Scribe’s libretti contained analogues with the modern life of the society and could provoke him into reflections about the dramatic destiny of France in the epoch of revolutionary perturbations.
