Abstract. In the article on the basis of the materials of periodical press the image of the Baltic Germans in the Russian public opinion during the First World War is analyzed. The author notes considerable interest of national publicists in the status of the Germans in the Baltics, reveals the attitudes of the publications of various political orientation concerning the Baltic issue and the ways of its solution. Special attention is paid to the formation of the image of enemy and the spread of ideas about the Baltic Germans as betrayers and spies in the press.
