Abstract. The article on the basis of the results of the author’s original sociological research justifies the destructive influence of corruption on the functioning of the political institutions of modern Russia. The results of the conducted analysis testify that in the circle of regional elites an activization of corruptive element occurs, which decelerates their dynamics, undermines confidence in the very idea of the modernization of the up-to-date political system.
