Abstract. The separation of pediatrics as an independent branch of medicine in the second half of the XIX century, the rise of society’s attention to social issues led to the development of a new public health branch - medical aid to children. The activity of the local governments of Yaroslavl province on the organization of the care, prophylaxis and treatment of children at the beginning of the ХХ century is considered in the article. The situation with pediatric aid in this region is typical of the whole zemstvo Russia.
