SYMBOLISM OF MEDIEVAL CULTURE IN STUDIES OF THE RUSSIAN AND FOREIGN AUTHORS OF THE FIRST HALF OF THE XX CENTURY

Abstract. On the basis of the analysis of a wide circle of scientific papers devoted to investigating the symbolism of medieval culture the article reveals the basic methodological trends in the research of the problem by the Russian and foreign authors of the first half of the XX century. The author concludes that in the first half of the XX century they formed backgrounds for the interdisciplinary investigations of medieval culture at the intersection of cultural and historical anthropology, semiotics, psychoanalysis and analytical psychology.
