COUNTERACTION AGAINST RADIOLOGICAL TERRORISM: PROBLEMS AND PERSPECTIVES

Abstract. The article is devoted to the actualization of the threat of terrorism with the use of radiological weapon. In the work a number of problems connected with fissionable materials trafficking, their protection at nuclear power plants and other facilities are raised. Radiological terrorism is considered in the context of the actual tendencies of modern international terrorism to the implementation of large-scale attacks with a great amount of victims among civilian population. The author emphasizes the danger of the indirect consequences of the act of terrorism with the use of fissionable materials such as panic and the contamination of information field.
