Abstract. The article reveals the spiritual-musical aspect of the outstanding Russian composer M. A. Balakirev’s activity. The composer’s spiritual-musical creative work is for the first time analyzed in detail in the paper in the context of his life and creativity. Also the data about Balakirev’s public work in St. Petersburg spiritual-musical environment are given; the issues of his reformatory activity as a Petersburg Court Chapel head (for 11 years) are highlighted.
