PROBLEMS OF WOMAN’S EDUCATION IN THE CLASSICAL ENGLISH NOVEL

Abstract. The article reveals the role of fiction as a source of information about the history and philosophy of education. The analysis of the creative works of Jane Austen allows studying the structure of the concept "educated woman", seeing the relation between a woman ideal as a moral creature and the system of woman’s education. The comparison of education content in the dynamics from the past to the present according to the woman’s scopes of activity and status is made. The author notes the integrity of a woman’s image in the novels as an unprofessional creator and translator of culture.
