Abstract. The article is aimed at considering and grounding the interaction of morality and politics and identifying the place, role of a human, a state and society in this process. The goal is to analyze new universal essence and the criterion of political unity based on the separation of the standard and the moral in the light of the criticism and social-philosophical interpretation of the concept "the political" and the theory of the distinction "friend - foe" of the authoritative German political scientist and lawyer C. Schmitt. The main conclusion that individual freedom is acquired politically and can get moral sense only in struggle for existential unity, whereas liberal thinking is limited to the criticism of the monopoly of the politics of the state is drawn.
