STRUGGLE FOR "CHEAP" MONEY IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS. SHERMAN’S "SILVER" BILL

Abstract. The article reveals the opposition of the supporters and opponents of bimetallic monetary standard among the representatives of two major political parties of the USA - republicans and democrats - at the end of the XIX century. The issue of the passing of the "silver" bill of the senator John Sherman through the House of Representatives of the United States Congress is considered. Special attention is paid to the results of vote on this bill and the revelation of sectional contradictions on the issue of the American monetary standard.
