THE FRENCH IMPRESSIONISM AND CLAUDE DEBUSSY: IN SEARCH OF NEW REALITIES

Abstract. The issue of the correlation between the creativity of the French composer Claude Debussy and the pictorial impressionism of the end of the XIX - the beginning of the XX century is at the centre of attention in the article. The author believes that the stable opinion formed in musicology about Debussy as a composer-impressionist gives an idea about the originality of his music only to some extent. Impressionism is considered as a peculiar manifestation of the "neo-mythologism" of the age, which greatly defined the specificity of the composer’s creative conception.
