REGIONAL DIRECTORATES FOR THE PROTECTION OF MILITARY AND STATE SECRETS IN THE PRESS IN THE 1950S (BY THE MATERIALS OF PERM DIRECTORATE FOR THE PROTECTION OF STATE SECRETS IN THE PRESS)

Abstract. In the article the practices of Perm censors’ activity in post-Stalin decade are described. The staff of Perm Directorate for the Protection of State Secrets in the Press in their daily work faced double reorganization during the year of 1953, personnel transfers, the liquidation of censors, who had a second job in the districts of Perm region, the change of censorial lists, and opposition from journalistic community. Under the influence of these factors the former leaders of Perm Directorate for the Protection of State Secrets in the Press failed to fulfill the tasks ascribed for censorship. According to the author’s point of view, in the middle of the 1950s the conditions for the liquidation of Regional Directorates for the Protection of State Secrets in the Press as such were formed in provinces.
