SYMBOLISM OF TREE AND BIRD IMAGES IN ART OF THE RUSSIAN NORTH: ON PROBLEM OF COSMOGONIC IDEAS REPRESENTATION IN CULTURE

Abstract. Tree and bird images in drawn sheets and copper-casted icons of the Vyg, in paintings and embroidery are considered. The problem stated in the article is the representation of cosmogony in culture. The aim of the article is to reveal the representation of cosmogonic myths in the art of the North. The terms "cosmogonic symbolism of the North" and "traditional and individual creativity" are introduced. The author comes to the conclusion that cosmogonic symbolism should be defined as the original demonstration of the North art essence, as the confirmation of its exceptional significance in the maintenance of our country culture.
