TRADITION OF PEASANT MUTUAL AID: IS IT ALIVE IN THE MODERN RUSSIAN VILLAGE?

Abstract. The system of mutual aid in the modern Udmurt village - its transformation and the forms of existence - is analyzed in the article. The author believes that the tradition of neighbourly and kindred mutual aid in the countryside will not disappear till autonomous subjects in the form of personal subsidiary plots of villagers function. The necessity of the interfamilial exchange of resources and mutual aid by labour will be determined by the desire to insure against the threat of losing social or economic status.
