ACTIVITY OF THE RUSSIAN HEADQUARTERS IN THE PRUTH RIVER CAMPAIGN OF 1711

Abstract. The article considers the process of the preparation and execution of the Pruth river campaign, analyzes in detail the understudied first phase of the movement of the Russian troops up to the Moldavian boarder. The author investigates conflict situations among the Russian headquarters at the military councils of May-June 1711, identifies alternative suggestions and reasons that stimulated to choose the "Danubian" variant of maneuvering. On the basis of the acquired data the researcher reveals the reasons for the defeat of the Russian army.
