STAGE VERSION OF OPERA "SADKO" (THE BOLSHOI THEATRE, 1935) AS A MANIFESTO OF "GIANT THEATRE"

Abstract. The article is devoted to the problem of the stage implementation of so called "large style" performances typical for the soviet musical scene of the 1920-1930s. By the example of the drama study reconstruction of the production of the opera "Sadko" by N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov at the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre in 1935 the author analyzes the production method of the stage director V. A. Lossky and the stage designer F. F. Fedorovsky, investigates their conception of "giant theatre", touches upon the issues of opera stage direction functioning under the conditions of normative esthetics.
