IMAGES OF THE GEORGIAN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC IN MODERN IDENTITY OF GEORGIA (BY EXAMPLES OF BLOGS AND ELECTRONIC MASS MEDIA)

Abstract. The author analyzes the narratives linked with the Georgian Democratic Republic in the modern Georgian national identity in the context of developing independent statehood images, which are offered to society by scientific community and various electronic media. The images of the independent Georgian statehood play a special role in the development of modern identity in Georgia. The Georgian intellectuals presume that modern independent Georgia is a historical and political heir and successor of the Georgian Democratic Republic. Considerable attention paid to the Republic images in the contemporary Georgian nationalism promotes its development as a predominantly civil and political one. The Republic images are idealized in the Georgian identity. This idealization contributes to the transformation of the Republic from "the place of recollection" into the national myth.
