Abstract. The article gives the historical and comparative analysis of the problem of freedom in the creative work of two bright original thinkers – M. A. Bakunin and N. A. Berdyaev. Bakunin saw the solution of this problem through social revolution, the social transformation of society, believing that the person is initially free, it is just necessary to take off the shackles imposed by the state. The analysis of these approaches allows considering the problem in another aspect.
