ANTI-VICTORIAN REACTION IN BRITISH ART CRITICISM OF THE END OF THE 30S – THE 90S OF THE XIX TH CENTURY

Abstract. The article is devoted to the analysis of anti-Victorian countercultural mindset in the British art criticism of the Victorian era – the works of A. Pugin, R. Wornum, J. Ruskin, and W. Morris. Particular attention is paid to the identification of the specific methodological foundations of these British artistic intelligentsia representatives’ critical-analytical approach to the comprehension of the problems of the Victorian artistic culture that was contemporary to them, and also the characteristic of practical recommendations aimed at solving these problems and developed by them is given.
