Abstract. The authors classify social communities on the Internet, and consider the role of social networks in the election campaign holding techniques in Russia. In this regard, their ability to influence public opinion and form it and the possibility of networks manipulative influence on the electorate are analyzed. The authors, basing on their practical experience, substantiate a proposition that the social networks of the Internet become an effective instrument of pre-electoral techniques.
