ARTIST AND HIS MODEL IN THE WESTERN EUROPEAN AND RUSSIAN CULTURE OF THE MIDDLE OF THE XIX CENTURY (BY THE MATERIALS OF EXHIBITION "PRE-RAPHAELITES: VICTORIAN AVANT-GARDE")

Abstract. The article is devoted to the comparative analysis of innovative trends in the English and Russian artistic culture of the middle of the XIX century presented by the material of the early period in the history of the Pre-Raphaelite movement (1848-1853) and the period of the formation of the Russian realistic painting (the 1860s). The gender crisis, which became one of the most important problems of the epoch, caused not only reflection in visual art, but also led to the transformation and emancipation of women’s model role in the process of posing as conscious complicity in creating an artistic image. The features of this trend manifestation in the European and Russian art are considered by the example of creating the significant works of the epoch - "Ophelia" by D. E. Milles (1852) and "The Drowned" by V. G. Perov (1867).
