ORTHODOX TRADITION THROUGH THE LENSES OF MILITARY ETHOS

Abstract. First of all, the article is devoted to analyzing the spiritual nature of military ethos. But at the same time the paper reveals the military nature of spiritual practice in Orthodox tradition, which is of special importance for the Russian culture. The history of Orthodox Church is rich in military events and victories, and its fathers gave us spiritually generous admonition how to remain human in horrible time of war. This ethical experience is so universal that sometimes it’s difficult to distinguish an exemplary Christian from a professional warrior.
